Employees React to Early Comstock Closing20 November 2000RENO, Nevada – Nov. 20, 2000 – As reported by the Associated Press: “The earlier-than-expected closure of downtown Reno's Comstock Hotel-Casino is drawing a mixed reaction from employees. ”…Comstock officials said they were unable to operate after losing about a quarter of the workforce following the initial Nov. 13 closure announcement. They also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week. ”Kathy Harvey, a Comstock cage cashier for 12 1/2 years, criticized management's handling of the closure. ”…But building engineer Allen White said employees had sensed the end was near. ”…A Miami investment group has agreed to purchase the 308-room property for $6 million and turn it into an apartment building and condominium complex.” |
