Emerald Could Change Plans19 April 2005ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Business: "Emerald Casino Inc. could change a controversial plan to sell its gaming license to a company planning to open a casino in Rosemont. "Emerald, which owns the state's 10th and final casino license, may now try to sell it to Midwest Gaming & Entertainment LLC, which hopes to open a casino in Des Plaines, according to filings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. "The filing offers the switch from Rosemont to Des Plaines as a possible option for the state gaming regulators. "…The news deals another blow to Isle and Rosemont, which have been at the center of a maelstrom since the gaming board chose them for the casino license. Shortly after the vote, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan criticized the decision, saying Rosemont was unfit for a casino because of its alleged mob ties. Rosemont village officials have repeatedly denied any link to organized crime. "Last week, the gaming board's new chairman, Aaron Jaffe, ordered the board to resume hearings to revoke Emerald's license. If successful, the gaming board would nullify Isle's purchase agreement and put the license up for bid again. A spokesman for Isle declined to comment…" |
