Emerald Casino License Renewed30 June 2005ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Tribune: "Under order by a Cook County judge, the Illinois Gaming Board on Wednesday technically renewed the license of the Emerald Casino. But the board made the four-year renewal retroactive to 1999, a move that effectively leaves the license for the controversial casino inactive. "It the same time, the board made it clear that it intends to move forward with administrative hearings aimed at stripping the bankrupt casino of the license, which is its only tangible asset. "Attorneys for Rosemont said the board was acting 'lawlessly' and promised to appear before Cook County Judge Sophia Hall on Thursday to ask her to find the board in contempt of court. "…Hall earlier this month followed a directive by the Illinois Appellate Court that said the Gaming Board must approve Emerald's request to renew its license and allow it to relocate. "…On Wednesday, the board said it would approve Emerald's license renewal effective the year Emerald applied for it--1999. The board then capped the renewal at four years, a standard time period…" |
