Edwardsville casino zoning reviews due soon

KANSAS -- As reported by the Chieftain: "It looks like Edwardsville officials will be reviewing another casino proposal before long.

"The Las Vegas Sands submitted two casino proposals to the state just before the Dec. 31 deadline, one in Kansas City, Kan., and the other near 110th Street and Interstate 70 in Edwardsville. If the project is to have the necessary endorsement, rezoning approval and special permit approved by the Edwardsville City Council at its March 10 meeting, the company will have to submit the applications by Jan. 16, Edwardsville Mayor Heinz Rodgers said.

"The rezoning approval and endorsement of the city would be necessary for the contract to be forwarded by the Lottery Commission to the Gaming Facility Review Board by the end of March.

"Because of the need for official notices and publication for a public hearing, the fastest the city could process such applications is usually at least 60 days, Rodgers said..."
