Eagle Mountain Casino closure extended to 30 April1 April 2020(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Tule River Indian Tribe Tribal Council announced on March 18, 2020, that in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it had made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend the operations of the Eagle Mountain Casino until April 3, 2020. However, in light of unexpected guidance recently issued by the Federal Government recommending that COVID-19 protections remain in place through the end of April, the Tribal Council has decided to extend the Casino’s closure through April 30, 2020. The Tribal Council did not make its decision lightly, recognizing the financial difficulties the extended closure would have not only on the Casino but also on its valued employees. In recognition of such difficulties on employees and in recognition of their many contributions in making the Casino a success, the Tribal Council has decided to continue to provide paid leave to employees through April 24, 2020. Although these decisions will come at a substantial expense to the Casino, Tribal Council emphasized that it is doing everything it possibly can to ensure the well-being of tribal members as well as Casino employees and guests and that its “main priority is your health and safety at this time.” The Casino’s closure is one of several steps the Tribal Council has taken in recent weeks to address the imminent health threat of COVID-19. In addition to closing the Casino, Tribal Council asked employees and guests as well as tribal members to “please continue to shelter in place” as requested by the State of California and the Federal Government for the health and safety of all. Tribal Council further commented that it greatly appreciated the patience of everyone during this unprecedented time as it attempts to ensure the overall welfare of tribal members as well as Casino employees and guests. |
