Dreams Of Jumbo Luxuries For Megajet Might Not Fly

FRANCE – As reported by the Shreveport Times: "Imagine gambling in a casino, working out on a treadmill and going shopping while flying across an ocean.

"Such was the vision of the future offered last month in Toulouse, France, at the unveiling of the mammoth Airbus A380.

"…But once-intertwined notions of luxury and air travel parted ways decades ago, having given way to brutal industry competition and passengers' proven preference for low fares over creature comforts. Although luxury lives on some long-haul international routes, such as those that will be flown by the A380, independent aviation experts say the visions of the high life peddled at the Toulouse ceremony are largely fiction.

"To make the big plane profitable, they say, airlines are likely to nudge the number of seats as close as possible to the double-deck planes' 840-passenger capacity. Anyway, they say, passengers today just won't pay the kind of fares it would take to eliminate enough seats for over-the-top amenities…"
