Dover Downs to participate in POW-MIA flag tour

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Dover Downs Hotel & Casino will host a POW-MIA flag making its way across the nation on Thursday, 1 March at 1 p.m. in The Colonnade.

A Hero's Welcome Delaware has organized the appearance and is part of a three-day tour of Delaware for the POW-MIA flag, which began its journey in Virginia on 23 September 2017. Since then, the flag has visited more than 30 states, including California, Hawaii, Michigan, Ohio and Texas.

The flag's journey represents thousands of U.S. military members that are unaccounted for since World War II and to raise awareness on prisoners of war and those missing in action. For more information on the POW-MIA flag tour, search POW Flag 50 State Tour on Facebook.

Dover Downs Hotel & Casino is one of 11 Delaware stops scheduled from 1-3 March. The public is welcome to attend any and all of the First State events, which include the following:

Thursday, 1 March
  • 9 a.m., Delaware State Police Troop 2 receives flag from Maryland officials (100 Lagrange Ave., Newark).
  • 11:30 a.m., Mission BBQ restaurant (Dover).
  • 1 p.m., Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, The Colonnade (Dover).
  • 4 p.m., Coleman Memorial United Church (465 ½ Anderson Dr., New Castle).
  • 7 p.m., Nur Temple, (198 S. DuPont Hwy., New Castle).
Friday, 2 March
  • 9 a.m., University of Delaware Trabant Center.
  • 11:30 a.m., Delaware Tech College – Stanton Campus.
  • 2 p.m., St. Georges Technical High School, (555 Hyett's Corner Road, Middletown).
Saturday, 3 March
  • 10 a.m. - Noon, HMD Sporting Gear (18289 Olde Coach Dr., Rehoboth Beach).
  • 1 p.m., Rommel's Harley Davidson Rally (New Castle).
  • 3 p.m., Delaware Memorial Bridge Park, flag given to New Jersey officials (Interstate 295, Route 9).
