Dover Downs Casino hosts gambling addiction program

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Dover Downs Hotel & Casino will host the Service Members, Veterans and Gambling Addiction program on Thursday, 15 March at the hotel's conference center. The program, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is co-sponsored by the Delaware Council on Gambling Problems, the National Council on Problem Gambling and Dover Downs Hotel & Casino.

Tickets for active duty military members and veterans are free. Tickets for students are $20 and general admission tickets are $50. The program includes a continental breakfast and buffet lunch and is worth 6.5 hours of Continuing Education Unit credits. Participants can register online.

The event's keynote speaker is Dr. Heather Chapman, a clinical psychologist and nationally certified gambling counselor. Chapman is the deputy director of the Veterans Addiction Recovery Center and the director of the Gambling Treatment Program at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center in Ohio.

It is estimated that 56,000 active duty U.S. service members have a gambling problem. The average rate of disordered gambling is nearly two times higher among active duty service members than among the general U.S. population.
