Dome Tycoon Accused of Inventing Support for Casino

29 August 2006

LONDON, England -- As reported by the Daily Mail: "The supercasinos row took a sinister new twist tonight after the billionaire owners of the Dome who gave gifts to John Prescott falsely claimed a local vicar backed his plans for a massive gambling complex.

"Philip Anschutz's firm AEG faked a 'dodgy dossier' from the Church of England clergyman in a bid to boost his attempt to win Britain's first super-casino licence.

"Reverend Malcolm Torry and other local religious leaders had voiced graved concerns that the casino in Greenwich, East London, would spark an epidemic in problem gambling in their community and that gambling 'should therefore be avoided'.

"...Rev Torry condemned the document as a 'serious breach of trust' and 'simply made up without our knowledge and agreement'.

"...Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) has today issued an apology. In a leaked email it apologised "unreservedly" to the Greenwich Peninsula Chaplaincy for failing to clear a document with them which was later posted on the Department for Culture, Media and Sport website..."

"...Mr Anschutz's company AEG was forced to apologised for what it called a 'genuine mistake'.

"...The Casino Advisory panel will hold hearings over the next week, analysing the case for each of the seven contenders on separate days..."
