Doings of the Vegas Crowd

13 November 1998

Steve Wynn and Frank Fahrenkopf of the American Gaming Association have convinced Representative Jim Gibbons, presently on the national security, intelligence and resources panels of the House, to run for one of three vacancies on the Ways and Means Committee.

"It is critical for Nevada and the gaming industry to have someone from the state on that committee," Fahrenkopf said.

Players International, meanwhile, has rejected a $350 million buyout offer from Hollywood Park, saying the bid was too low and Hollywood had not convinced it the track/casino operation had financing for the deal. Hollywood chairman R. D. Hubbard said he was disappointed with Players' rejection of Hollywood's firm offer, but Hollywood "would review how best to bring added value" to Players stockholders.
