Discounter Plans Flights Between Las Vegas, Dallas

31 October 2003

The Las Vegas Sun

LAS VEGAS -- AirTran Airways, a discount passenger carrier that currently offers 12 nonstop round trips a week between McCarran International Airport and Atlanta, will link Las Vegas and Dallas with a pair of nonstop round trips early next year.

The Orlando, Fla.-based company announced Thursday that it would serve the route with twin-engine Boeing 717 jets with flights to and from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport beginning Feb. 11.

AirTran will compete on the route with Delta, American and America West Airlines, which have a total of 15 flights a day between them. Dallas-based American dominates the route with an average of eight flights a day.

Ticket prices will range from $99 to $249 for business class, one way. The airline, formerly known as ValuJet, operates primarily on the East Coast and has 508 flights a day to 45 destinations.
