Developers Reassure Indiana Gambling Regulators

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – As reported by the Kentucky Courier Journal: "Two executives overseeing the development of a $240 million Orange County casino assured state gambling regulators yesterday that the project is still on track despite uncertainties about who will manage the casino.

"Steve Ferguson, the chairman of Bloomington-based Cook Group Inc., and Vernon Back, general counsel with Lauth Group Inc., an Indianapolis real estate developer, submitted a progress report to the Indiana Gaming Commission that illuminated the evolving nature of the French Lick casino project.

"The men reported, for instance, that they now intend to hire a general manager within a week or two and additional top casino staff within a couple of months.

"The partners in Blue Sky Casino planned for French Lick had previously reached a tentative agreement with Majestic Star Casino, a gambling company in Gary. But last Friday, they announced that negotiations with Majestic had fallen through and that Blue Sky intended instead to form its own team.

"The partners told the commission they don't expect the management issues to delay the planned December 2006 opening…"
