Developers promote mix-use casino project

HALLADALE BEACH, Florida – As reported by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel: "Live, work, play -- and gamble.

"That's what developers of Hallandale Beach's future town center promise to offer South Floridians in October 2008.

"Forest City Enterprises Inc., a leading national developer whose projects have left an indelible mark in Denver, New York City and Cambridge, Mass., will start construction in May on an approximately $1 billion project called The Village of Gulfstream Park.

"Forest City's Executive Vice President Ronald Ratner on Thursday highlighted the project to a group of more than 1,100 real estate industry officials during his keynote speech at the 2006 Conference on Mixed-Use Development in Hollywood.

"Anchored by Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino -- a thoroughbred-racing complex that started running the state's first Las Vegas-style slot machines Wednesday -- the massive open-air project will eventually be home to more than 70 shops, restaurants and cafés, 1,500 condos, offices, a movie theater and a 500-room hotel. It's also a classic example of the real estate industry's trend toward building projects that blend retail, entertainment, office and residential uses to create a Main Street atmosphere where people can live, work and enjoy leisure pastimes…"
