Developers fight for PA harness racing license18 April 2007PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "Two competitors took their four-year battle for the state's fourth and final harness racing license -- and the slots casino that will come with it -- to the state Supreme Court chambers here yesterday. "Competing developers for the proposed Bedford Downs in Lawrence County and Valley View Downs in Beaver County asked the high court to order the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission to reconsider their applications, which the commission had rejected in November 2005. "…Bedford Downs, proposed by the Shick family of New Castle, would be a 1-mile harness track along Route 422 near the Ohio line. The principals of Bedford Downs are construction company owner Carmen Shick, his brother, Ken Shick, and their sister, Kendra Tabak. "They are competing for a harness racing license against Valley View, a proposed 5/8-mile track that would be built by Centaur Inc. of Indianapolis near Route 60 in Beaver County…" |
