Developer to Reword Mississippi Casino Proposal

HANCOCK COUNTY, Mississippi – As reported by the Mississippi Sun Herald: "South Beach Casino and Resort Inc., which wants to build a casino in Hancock County, withdrew its appeal Monday to the Board of Supervisors, saying it needs more time to reword its application.

"Wording in the application filed in July by Russell Elliot of South Beach implied the casino would feature 'stages for adult entertainment' and 'adult style shows,' which may have led the Planning and Zoning Commission to deny approval.

"In addition, the application listed Kirk Ladner of Magnolia I Inc. as a business partner. Magnolia I is the company seeking approval to build a strip club in Hancock County.

"…South Beach has 4.2 acres near Clermont Harbor, but according to county zoning laws, casinos are required to build on at least five acres.

"…South Beach plans to file another application with the Planning and Zoning Commission this week…"
