Developer Pledges $1 Million with Strings Attached2 May 2005WATERLOO, Iowa – As reported by the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier: "A landowner and developer adjacent to the defunct Waterloo Greyhound Park is pledging $1 million to accredited Black Hawk County high schools and the University of Northern Iowa women's basketball program --- if state officials choose the dog track for a casino. "Harold Youngblut of Deer Creek Development plans to build a Gold's Gym and other projects in a proposed Gateway Business Park on 122 acres immediately north and east of the dog track. He pledged the donation based on the expected increased value of his land and development potential if the dog track, owned by the National Cattle Congress, wins a license. "…Youngblut also predicted the business park 'will allow 20 or more businesses, families and individuals to reap the economic benefits that a new casino would bring to the area.'…" |
