Detroit Suburb's Residents Approve Casino Proposal

3 December 2003

ROMULUS, Michigan – As reported by the Associated Press: "Residents voted in a special election Tuesday to allow a casino and horse track in their community.

"With all 18 precincts reporting, 2,879 voters or 56.6 percent cast ballots in favor of the casino proposal and 2,211 or 43.4 percent of voters cast ballots against it.

"…The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of the Chippewa Indians has proposed building a $350 million casino in this Detroit suburb. The facility would have a conference center and resort with 2,500 slot machines and more than 90 table games.

"…A vote to approve the casino does not guarantee that one will open in Romulus, but a no vote would have likely killed it…"
