Detroit Seeks Delay in Tribal Casino Deal16 December 2003DETROIT, Michigan – As reported by Associated Press: "The city council plans to ask federal judges to delay approving a settlement in the Lac Vieux Desert tribal lawsuit over casinos until the council can approve it. "Paperwork related to settling the lawsuit was expected to be filed Tuesday at the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati. Federal judges must approve the settlement before construction can begin on Detroit's three permanent casinos, the Detroit Free Press reported. "On Monday, the council unanimously passed a resolution to ask for the delay after learning that, as a condition of settling the lawsuit, Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick agreed to free the owners of MotorCity and Greektown casinos from paying the city $20 million each for property it had condemned.
