Detroit Casinos Vie for Windsor's Customers

DETROIT, Michigan – As reported by the Detroit News: "On any other Saturday, Diane Herring would be pumping her money into slots at Casino Windsor.

"But the union strike by more than 3,000 Casino Windsor employees temporarily shut down the casino Friday and forced Harding to come to MGM Grand Casino. She's happy to have the option, but her loyalties lie abroad.

"…Regular patrons of the Ontario casino are expected to come to Detroit to gamble, and Detroit's three casinos are hoping to permanently win their business.

"At MGM Grand, business was booming Saturday with a steady stream of cars rolling into the parking structure and few empty seats at slot machines and tables.

"…The weekends are the busiest time for the Detroit casinos, but Saturday there was an uptick of customers, said Jay Dee Clayton, executive vice president of operations at MGM Grand.

"…To make Casino Windsor customers feel especially welcome, MGM is offering a free meal to Casino Windsor cardholders until Thursday.

"At Greektown Casino, VIP cardholders for Casino Windsor will receive an honorary Pantheon Club membership. They will be treated to a private buffet, private bars and tables, and gain access to more exclusive areas of the clubs for two weeks…"
