Detroit Casino Owner Wants to Run Racino

DETROIT, Michigan – As reported by the Detroit News: "Casino owner Don Barden is joining a growing list of entrepreneurs who want to operate a horsetrack with video lottery terminals in Metro Detroit.

"Barden told The Detroit News on Monday that he plans to submit an application today with the state Office of the Racing Commissioner to open a thoroughbred track in Detroit, Taylor or Westland. The track proposal in Detroit is for the Michigan State Fairgrounds at Eight Mile and Woodward.

"…Barden said he has been working on his own racetrack proposal since February. He believes his experience at operating casinos — he owns the Majestic Star Casino in Gary, Ind., along with Fitzgeralds Casinos in Las Vegas, Colorado and Mississippi — gives him an edge over other applicants…"
