Demers wins 2021 WSOP Online $500 No-Limit Hold'em event

15 July 2021

(PRESS RELEASE) -- On Wednesday night, after nearly 11 hours of battle on the virtual felt, Gionni "COLDWARKID" Demers defeated David "dwpoker" Williams in heads-up play to win the 2021 WSOP Online Event #14: $500 No-Limit Hold'em for his first WSOP bracelet and the huge $90,023 top prize.

Prior to the win, Demers had 20 WSOP-related cashes totaling $468,162 with his best WSOP cash coming from the 2011 WSOP Main Event when he finished 20th for $302,005.

The event attracted 673 entries including 363 re-entries to create a $466,200 prize pool with the top 143 players collecting at least a $793 min-cash.

After Joe "IhateChadE" Mckeehen eliminated Israel "Izzyboii_1" Veliz on the money bubble, the 143 remaining players started falling at a rapid pace.

Among the notables to cash were fifteen-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil "Lumestackin" Hellmuth (73rd - $1,072), Eric "Circleball" Baldwin (48th - $1,772), Jeff "NedrudRelyt" Madsen (34th - $2,098), Joe "IhateChadE" Mckeehen (26th - $2,564), Arkadiy "Crocofantos" Tsinis (17th - $3,124), and Trace "TrickyTwelve" Henderson (10th - $4,942).

Final Table Action

The final table witnessed most players sitting fairly deep with Ethan "Rampunts" Yau holding over 20 big blinds when he bowed out in ninth place after holding a dominating ace-queen in the big blind only to be rivered by Demers holding an ace-eight in the small blind.

From there, Daniel "TheDinosaur" Marder was out-kicked by Jonas "puffin_nails" Wexler to fall in eighth place while Shankar "Burgersssss" Pillai lost a race to Philip "tszis" Shing and rolled out in seventh place.

Pierce "Victoria53" Mckellar was the next player to fall when he jammed his stack into the middle holding king-five suited and they were called by Demers holding a pair of aces. Mckellar was way behind and Demers flopped a set ending his tournament in sixth place.

Wexler, who found his way back to another final table, came up short once again after he jammed holding huge draws on a two-club flop and was called by Williams holding ace-queen. Williams was ahead after flopping a queen and Wexler bricked the runout ending his night in fifth place.

With four players remaining the stacks were even and extremely deep, with each player sitting roughly with 30 big blinds. With fifteen-minute levels, a few went by before Shing finally found his way to a fourth-place exit after his ace-three came up short against Demers king-queen.

The final three jostled for a bit before Samantha "femme_fatale" Lake grew short and called off her stack on the button after Demers three-bet from the big blind. It was a rollercoaster hand that saw Lake take the lead on the turn only to get tripped up on the river.

The heads-up battle between Demers and Williams didn't last long as the final hand saw each player hold a made hand. Williams held a pair of fours while Demers held a pair of sevens and Williams couldn't find a set or complete his gutshot as he finished runner up.
