Delaware Slots Expansion Includes Funding for Treatment

DOVER, Delaware – As reported by the Delaware State News: "When state officials, General Assembly members and casino officials agreed to expand slot machine operations in Delaware, the pact included a provision to increase the guarantee of funding for gambling treatment services.

"Current Delaware law calls for 1 percent of the state's share of casino revenue or $100,000, whichever is greater, to fund the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health's gambling addiction services.

"With gambling bringing in much more money than expected, funding levels have been much higher.

"…Under the agreement announced last week, the gambling treatment efforts would be guaranteed $1 million.

"The guarantee is in the deal to ensure the treatment services would continue to be funded if gaming competition from other states hurts Delaware's casinos…"
