Delaware Park sets world record24 August 2011WILMINGTON, Delaware -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The Delaware Park Iron Man Poker Challenge proved a successful event in all aspects, with 376 seated participants and the establishment of a new world record for the Longest “Documented” Continuous Poker Tournament. The only other documented marathon poker event was hosted by the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles in September 2009 and lasted a mere 19 hours. Delaware Park Racetrack, Slots and Golf's Iron Man began at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, and ended on Sunday, August 21, at 7:58 p.m. for a total length of play of 31 hours, 58 minutes. “We are constantly trying to innovate the game of poker by creating new and exciting events. I want our players to always feel welcome and be a part of special events such as this” While falling short of the Guinness benchmark of 36 hours, an overwhelming amount of positive feedback was received from players, as well as outside interest in the event. “At one point, there were 177 people streaming the live video and 1,700 people following the live updates through www.twoplustwo.com, in addition to the 40+ people in the crowd around the final table,” said Poker Room Manager Kevin Castora, who, along with Tournament Director Calvin Beene, was present for the entire event. “We are constantly trying to innovate the game of poker by creating new and exciting events. I want our players to always feel welcome and be a part of special events such as this,” elaborated Castora. Although extremely fatigued, the players never lost their good spirits, which made for a positive atmosphere throughout the entire event. |
