Delaware North Companies Joins Empire Racing10 July 2006SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Empire Racing's bid to operate New York State's thoroughbred racetracks at Aqueduct, Belmont and Saratoga was further strengthened today with the announcement that Delaware North Companies has joined the horsemen and breeder led company. "The addition of this outstanding New York-based company demonstrates our commitment to restoring New York racing to world class status and ensuring that New York racing is run by New Yorkers, for New Yorkers," said Jeff Perlee, Empire Racing CEO. Delaware North Companies is an international leader in the sports venue management, hospitality and entertainment services business with nearly $2 billion in annual revenues. Its world-class gaming and hospitality operations are well known in the industry. Since 1962, it has owned and operated the successful Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Racetrack in Farmington, NY. In addition, Delaware North operates three of the highly successful video lottery facilities in New York State (Saratoga Gaming and Raceway, Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack and Fairgrounds Gaming & Raceway). "With their strong endorsement from New York Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association, it's clear to us Empire Racing is the best choice to revive racing in the state," said Ron Sultemeier, President of Delaware North Companies Gaming & Entertainment. Delaware North will be a principle resource in Empire's RFP response in the areas of hospitality, guest services and racing at the three state owned tracks and gaming operations at the downstate tracks. Empire Racing and Delaware North specifically reject the idea of VLT operations at the State's Saratoga Race Course. Delaware North manages its global operations from its headquarters in Buffalo, New York. Empire Racing is based in Saratoga Springs and Manhattan. |
