Delaware Casino Proposed9 March 2004GEORGETOWN, Delaware – As reported by the Delmarva Daily Times: "Despite opposition to more gambling in Delaware by Gov. Ruth Ann Minner and many legislators, a development group has proposed building a 150-room hotel with 2,500 slot machines on Route 404 in Georgetown. "The group plans to present its proposal to the Georgetown Town Council next week, asking to build the facility on 75 acres next to the Wal-Mart store on Route 113. The group has signed a contract to buy the land for $8 million. "The developers will need more than the blessing of town officials -- state law also must be changed. Delaware now allows slots gambling only at three horse tracks -- two in Kent County and one in New Castle County. Changing the law could be difficult. "…But a spokesman for the investors said he thinks the timing is right for the company's proposal, given Delaware's concern that slots gambling soon will be allowed in Maryland and Pennsylvania…" |
