Delaware Casino Proposal to be Introduced

DOVER, Delaware – As reported by the Delaware State News: "Supporters of a proposal to build a casino, racetrack and hotel in Georgetown plan on having legislation introduced in the General Assembly by May 1, said Dover attorney Constantine F. Malmberg III, who is representing a group hoping to develop the project.

"The group is not planning to latch onto proposed legislation to allow a casino in Wilmington, which Mr. Malmberg said last year could happen.

"…Sussex Entertainment Enterprises wants to build the casino, race track and 150-room hotel on 75 acres next to the Wal-Mart on the southbound side of U.S. 113 in Georgetown.

"The casino would hold 2,500 slot machines, the maximum Delaware law allows. The track would hold harness racing events. Two of Delaware's three horse tracks -- Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway -- hold harness races.

"Several legislators have expressed interest in sponsoring the legislation, Mr. Malmberg said, but are waiting to see a draft copy before agreeing to introduce the bill. Legislation cannot be introduced without at least one General Assembly member as a sponsor…"
