Del Lago Resort hosts "Finger Lakes to Table" wine pairings

27 October 2017

(PRESS RELEASE) -- From the very start, del Lago Resort & Casino has had a focused mission to strengthen the community by supporting local businesses. The resort and casino has prided itself on forging strong partnerships with Finger Lakes wineries, breweries and meat and cheese vendors while sourcing farm fresh local ingredients. On Thursday, 2 November at 7 p.m., The Sociale Café and Bar will host a "Finger Lakes to Table" wine and dinner pairing featuring Red Newt Cellars and winemaker Kelby James Russell. The four-course meal is $65 per person and will include dishes that use seasonal and locally sourced ingredients paired with Red Newt Cellars wines.

Space is limited as reservations are required and may be made by visiting Open Table or by calling 315-946-1781.

The Sociale Café & Bar is under the culinary expertise of award-winning local chef Joe Caratozzolo. Chef Joe has worked with chef John Besh (at his flagship Restaurant August in New Orleans) and for James Beard award-winner Alon Shaya, among many other notable restaurants. Featuring farm-to-fork healthy "gastro-spa" style cuisine, The Sociale Café and Bar is proud to support the most reputable growers in the region.

Founded in 1998 by David and Debra Whiting, Red Newt Cellars is located on the east side of Seneca Lake in the hamlet of Hector. Wine production started with the 1998 vintage with a mere 1,200 cases of Chardonnay, Riesling, Vidal, Cayuga, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The first white wines were released at the grand opening in July of 1999.

Red Newt Cellars winemaker Kelby James Russell is a Harvard graduate who grew up just north of Finger Lakes. He currently consults and makes wine for different projects, including Empire Estates, Terrassen and Boundary Breaks. He has also been involved in making Tierce Riesling, a joint project between Fox Run, Anthony Road and Red Newt Cellars. His ability to extract character and terroir from the regions classic varietals is amazing as he continues the pursuit of new and experimental styles of wine for the region. He treasures the opportunity to work at a Riesling House, striving to make Finger Lake Rieslings a part of dinner tables from the everyday to diverse single vineyard bottlings.
