Debate Continues at Pennsylvania Hearings10 April 2006PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the York Daily Record: "The sniping continued over a proposed slots parlor near Gettysburg at the second hearing on the plan before state gaming regulators. "Several union leaders argued for the $350 million casino project, while farmers, church leaders and many nearby residents argued against it. "Thirty-two people testified Friday on the proposed Crossroads Gaming Resort & Spa before the state Gaming Control Board at the auditorium of the State Museum in Harrisburg. A group of investors led by Gettysburg businessman David LeVan wants to build the slots parlor at routes 30 and 15. "The board, which should decide by next year who gets the slots licenses, heard more than three hours of divided testimony on the Crossroads plan Friday. It heard about six hours of testimony at the first hearing on the plan Wednesday at Gettysburg College. "…Local farm organizations argued that Adams County's rural way of life is threatened by the casino plan. "…Three of the six gaming board members attended Friday's hearing; board rules require at least two to attend. Absent were board chairman Tad Decker and members Kenneth McCabe and Joseph Marshall III…" |
