Dane wins over $1.2 million after taking down WCOOP Main Event27 September 2011(PRESS RELEASE) -- The 2011 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) reached its thrilling conclusion in the early hours of Tuesday morning as Thomas ‘Kallllle’ Pedersen from Denmark was crowned the Main Event champion, winning the first prize of $1,260,018.50 and gold bracelet. After a five-way deal was done at the final table, the 28-year-old Danish player went on to defeat Vojtech ‘Vojta_R’ Ruzicka from the Czech Republic heads-up, who earned $710,000 for second place. The historic win was sealed when the pocket threes of ‘Vojta_R’ lost a race against the A-T of ‘Kallllle’ on a board of T-9-2-4-5. The Main Event featured a buy-in of $5,200, and saw a total field of 1,627 players register for the two-day event to create a prize pool of $8,135,000, easily surpassing the $5 million PokerStars guaranteed. WCOOP 2011 statistics This year’s WCOOP lived up to its reputation as the richest and most prestigious online poker festival of the year. The total WCOOP prize money reached $47,120,800 – far in excess of the initial $30 million guarantee. In the end though, ‘2Fly2TILT’ from Spain and ‘Big_Nemo’ from Canada tied on 295 points each, but Joel Adam ‘2FLY2TILT’ Gordon won the top prize of a Champion’s Trophy, EPT Season 8 Grand Final package, 2012 SCOOP Main Event ticket, 2012 PCA Package and Special Edition Chipset by virtue of winning more money across the 2011 WCOOP. ‘Big_Nemo’ received the second prize of SCOOP Main Event ticket, 2012 PCA package and Special Edition Chipset, while Team PokerStars Pro Daniel ‘KidPoker’ Negreanu came third to win the SCOOP Main Event ticket and Special Edition Chipset. The highest-placed woman on the WCOOP Leaderboard was Kathleen ‘rockstar2’ Row from Canada, who finished on 155 points by making two final tables, her best result coming in WCOOP-18: $320 NL Hold’em, where she came second for $74,073. For her achievement, Row wins a trip to the PCA in January to play in the PokerStars Women Live event. Final day’s events Earlier on the final day, ‘Ostrov’ from Russia won the $10,300 8-Game High Roller event for $210,000, by overturning a heads-up deficit against Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov. Meanwhile, a few hours later, WCOOP-60 – a $215 NL Hold’em event that attracted 9,664 players, finally came to an end with ‘X-Front’ from the Netherlands seizing victory to take the first prize of $284,319.29.
