D-Link, Honeywell team up for casino contract5 June 2007FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- D-Link(R), the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumer and business, has teamed with Honeywell to implement a fail-safe video surveillance infrastructure for the $550 million post-Katrina renovation of the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Miss., one of the largest gaming destinations in North America. D-Link and Honeywell provided the Beau Rivage with a proven, highly reliable solution that converts analog security video into digital streams, handling massive amounts of traffic on the network and thousands of video streams to broadcast multiple live shots simultaneously to secure the casino's assets, premises and customer safety. For the Beau Rivage project, the hardware consisted of 15 D-Link xStack(TM) 24-Port Layer 3 Gigabit switches with 40-Gig stacking (DGS-3324SR), D-Link Gigabit interface converters (DEM-310GT), along with 1,536 Honeywell analog cameras. Digital encoders sit between the D-Link switches and Honeywell cameras. The system delivers 1,536 streams of real-time, high-resolution video, some 6,144 Mbps of video and data over 40 servers and 20 clients. "The nature of Beau Rivage's business requires 100 percent uptime, so scalability and reliability were crucial," said Keith A. Karlsen, executive vice president of D-Link Systems, Inc. "The casino's situation is unique. Usually thousands of clients attempt to access only a few streams of video, audio or data. Their situation was the exact opposite." "The D-Link xStack are a great solution for the multicast network traffic and fail-over support we required for this application," said Howard Simpson, systems architect at Honeywell. D-Link and Honeywell addressed the need to implement an industry standard multicast routing protocol without over-engineering the solution or inflating project costs. The new design also required easy expansion and reliability to replace the Beau Rivage's aging, labor intensive VHS system which had degrading tape quality, manual review and back-up processes. "The multicast performance of this network is very impressive from a purely technical standpoint, and the image quality is like day and night. Now we're getting superior, real-time resolution and everything is right there at our fingertips," said Richard Gibbs, surveillance technician for Beau Rivage. "The new digital system cuts video review time in half for our security operators. They now have more time to monitor live operations rather than deal with tapes and poorly recorded video." The Beau Rivage Resort & Casino is one of the largest and tallest buildings in Mississippi, spanning 3.2 million square feet and 32 stories. A subsidiary of MGM Mirage, the Beau Rivage is rated one of the top U.S. resorts by Conde Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure Magazines. The newly designed complex features 1,740 guest rooms and suites, four lounges and bars, seven restaurants, 17 retail venues, spa and salon, pool and convention center, and casino. |
