Czech President: Casino Controls Too Lax

PRAGUE, Czech Republic – As reported by the Prague Post: "The former government should have imposed tougher controls over casinos, President Vaclav Klaus has said, as police continue to hunt for an attacker who injured 18 by detonating a grenade outside a gambling business in central Prague.

"Klaus said he can see no reason for this country having the biggest number of casinos per capita in the European Union.

"…Authorities have blamed the Aug. 1 grenade attack outside the Casino Hotel Royal on Na Prikope street on a feud within the Israeli underworld. The blast provoked calls for a crackdown on the gambling industry and its suspected ties with organized crime.

"Two days after the explosion, the Finance Ministry -- which regulates the country's 151 casinos -- announced plans to change the law and impose tougher conditions before granting permission to run such businesses…"
