Crown Casino may face fines

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australia Age: "Crown Casino could face fines of up to $1 million following an 'underhanded' rule change that could increase its take from some gamblers by 40 per cent.

"The Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation has launched an investigation into whether the casino can be prosecuted for breaking Victoria's gaming laws with a subtle change to its blackjack rules.

"…Under the previous rules, a skilled player would lose 50 cents in every $100. Under the new rules it's 70 cents — a 40 per cent increase.

"One well-known Toorak businessman and regular card player said many high rollers would not accept the rule change if it was introduced in the Mahogany Room and other premium gaming rooms. But whereas high rollers could gamble interstate and overseas, ordinary players would probably put up with it because Crown had no competition in Melbourne, he said.

"…Crown could have broken the law by imposing the rule change on April 16 without updating the rules published on its website…"
