Crown casino gambling statistics released

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australian Herald Sun: "Figures obtained by the Herald Sun reveal punters have lost $102,000 an hour – $28 every second – playing pokies and table games at Crown since May 1997.

"That's $2.46 million lost every day.

"Casino chiefs estimate a third of the cash has come from overseas visitors and high-roller gamblers.

"That means Victorian and interstate punters have parted with about $6 billion.

"Taxes paid to the State Government over the same period total $3.13 billion.

"As the casino prepares to celebrate its 10th birthday on May 8, the Herald Sun has found:

"…More than 140 million people have walked through its doors, making it the state's leading tourist attraction.

"…Annual player losses at the casino surged through the $1 billion barrier for the first time last financial year and are tipped to soar even higher in 2006-07.

"The 10-year statistics do not include the three years Crown operated a temporary casino at the World Trade Centre in Flinders St from 1994-97…"
