Crown Casino Celebrates 10th Birthday

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australia Herald Sun: "Gamblers have lost more than $7.4 billion at Crown casino in a decade.

"That's $2.02 million a day, $84,000 an hour or $23 a second.

"It is 10 years this week since the doors to the casino's temporary headquarters were flung open at the World Trade Centre in Flinders St.

"…Crown statistics show Victorian punters have led the charge, accounting for more than two-thirds of total player losses.

"Overseas and interstate gamblers have parted with more than $2.3 billion - most from the pockets of cashed-up high-rollers.

"And $2.5 billion was paid in government taxes, charges and licence fees.

"…Since day one, Crown says 40 gamblers at the casino have become instant millionaires, thanks to huge pokies jackpots.

"The casino says 1000 luxury cars, 200 Harley-Davidson motorbikes, 100 world holidays and 50 house and land packages have also been won.

"Since moving into its Southbank home in 1997, Crown has welcomed more than 40,000 visitors a day, or 15 million a year, making it the state's most popular tourist attraction…"
