Crowds flock to Oklahoma casino opening1 April 2009TULSA, Oklahoma -- As reported by the Tulsa World: "River Spirit Casino staff members were hoping for a big opening Tuesday, and they got it. "Thousands of people lined up outside, and bumper-to-bumper traffic jammed one lane of Riverside Drive as Muscogee (Creek) Nation Principal Chief A.D. Ellis cut the ribbon at 10 a.m. on the tribe's massive new casino. "Many patrons parked at the old Creek Nation Casino parking lot north of the new casino at 81st Street and Riverside Drive. "A few even tried the doors of the old casino. But when they found them locked, they quickly fell in with the heavy flow of pedestrians walking south on Riverside. "Inside, the casino floor's semi-quiet atmosphere changed rapidly as people flocked to the restaurants, grabbed a seat at a poker table or sat transfixed at one of the thousands of humming, flashing gambling machines..." |
