Croce Puts Together Casino Team18 August 2005PHILADELPHIA – As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer: "Former Philadelphia 76ers president and co-owner Pat Croce is putting together a team of star athletes and entertainers to build a casino at the former Adam's Mark Hotel, although he has not reached a deal on the property, according to a source familiar with the matter. "Croce declined to comment yesterday on whether there was any deal in the works, but confirmed that he was talking with gambling companies and some well-known athletes and entertainers about seeking rights to build one of two Philadelphia casinos. "…The former Adam's Mark Hotel is identified as an ideal location for a slots parlor in a report issued Tuesday by the Mayor's Gaming Advisory Task Force. The building sits on the city's Northwest side near the Schuylkill Expressway and City Avenue. "…To get into the action, Croce would face some stiff competition. Big-name gambling companies and the politically well-connected will be elbowing for a chance to cash in on slot-machine gambling at two standalone parlors mandated in the gambling law…" |
