CRDA Head Not Ready to Leave

ATLANTIC CITY – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Curtis Bashaw has a few words for anyone who has designs on his high-profile job as executive director of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority: I'm not leaving yet.

"Speculation has been building that Bashaw is vulnerable and likely will not survive the political convulsions in Trenton once Gov. James E. McGreevey steps down in November following revelations of his gay sex scandal.

"Sounding defiant, the normally reserved Bashaw said Tuesday he has no plans to resign from his CRDA post and would continue to follow the course he has set since taking charge of the powerful state agency April 1.

"…But in just five months on the job, Bashaw has gone from being a political outsider to a member of the governor's inner circle. He was one of the close advisers consulted by McGreevey before the governor made his stunning announcement last week that he is gay, had an extramarital affair with a man and would resign Nov. 15.

"Bashaw, who admits being gay, denied any romantic involvement with McGreevey.

"…Bashaw has been praised for injecting the authority with new energy and ideas. But there are questions whether his ties to McGreevey will lead to his downfall…"
