Cowlitz Casino Talk On Hold13 February 2006WASHINGTON – As reported by the Columbian: "Discussion of an offer from the Cowlitz Tribe to provide the city with up to $3 million annually will have to wait until after this week's federal meetings on the tribe's proposed $510 million casino complex. "The city council hasn't publicly debated the merits of the offer, which was presented Feb. 1. During a short discussion Wednesday night, council members decided to hold a public hearing on the proposal at 6 p.m. March 1 at the La Center Community Center, 1000 E. Fourth St. "…The proposal would compensate the city for 10 years for some of the gambling taxes it stands to lose if a 134,150-square-foot casino is built two miles west of La Center. "The exact amount would be determined by subtracting the city's gambling revenue from its four nontribal card rooms from the $3 million guarantee…" |
