Courts May Decide Jackpot Claim

MISSION, British Columbia – As reported by the Vancouver Sun: "A $14.5-million Lotto 6/49 jackpot may be the first in B.C.'s history to be divvied up in a courtroom if a dispute between its winners and claimants is not settled by today, says a B.C. Lottery Corporation spokeswoman.

"Tamara Ibbott said in an interview Sunday that although lottery disputes have resulted in winnings being turned over to courts elsewhere in Canada, it has never happened in this province.

"The prize, originally claimed by nine employees of a Mission A&W on Tuesday after it was won on Aug. 20, was formally contested by two other employees, Tanis McQuillan, 25, and Meagan Weisgarber, 19. The two argued they should receive a share of the money because they regularly contributed to the workplace pool.

"Two unnamed people also came forward on Friday saying they deserve a cut of the prize money…"
