County Tries to Block Ione Casino14 June 2005CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Tracy Press: "Amador County is trying to block a new casino from being built in Ione that could result in a lot more traffic in San Joaquin County. "Construction of the 400,000-square foot entertainment complex could include a 56,000- square foot gaming floor and a dining room, ballroom and retail outlets, among other amenities. "Officials are afraid that a casino of the Buena Vista Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians could bring weekend stop-and-go gridlock from Highway 12 to Liberty Road to Jackson Valley Road. "…Amador County has filed a federal lawsuit, claiming the tribal land is not a reservation but instead privately owned. In order for gaming to be permitted, the land must be considered a reservation by the federal government, [Patrick Blacklock, Amador County's administrator] said…" |
