Countries Use Variety for Gambling Restrictions

SINGAPORE – As reported by the Singapore Straits Times: "Singapore is not alone in its concerns about the social ills of having casinos.

"India allows casinos only in the western state of Goa, and they must abide by rules governing the maximum number of machines and card tables.

"Malaysia has one licensed casino in Genting Highlands which bars Muslims from entering.

"…To keep negative effects to a minimum, all the casinos in South Korea face stringent regulations. They are not allowed to advertise, operations must cease for at least four hours every day (except Sundays) and tax rates are high.

"Outside the region, in Turkey, for example, local players are discouraged from gambling through a requirement to buy, at significant expense, an authorisation card before gaming…"
