Council Likely to Delay Vote19 January 2005The Las Vegas City Council is expected to delay voting on a measure that could relieve Boyd Gaming of its obligation to build a parking garage on city land it bought for $1 in 1994. City Manager Doug Selby said Tuesday he will request that the council delay considering a seventh contract amendment with Boyd in a decade regarding the obligation. Mayor Oscar Goodman is in Washington, D.C., attending a national mayoral conference. Selby said the request is a courtesy to Goodman because he is involved with the effort to develop a performing arts center on the city's 61-acre Union Park parcel. Boyd is offering to contribute $1.68 million to the performing arts center's development for being relieved of its obligation to build a 900-space garage on 3.4 acres of former city land just south of the company's Main Street Station.
