Council Bluffs casinos rebound

IOWA – As reported by the Nonpareil News: "Gross gaming receipts rebounded at Council Bluffs casinos during February, topping January's market totals by $1.3 million despite snowy weekends and three fewer days in the month, according to figures released by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.

"February's $38.8 million also was an increase from the $36.9 million spent in the city's casinos in February 2006.

"Horseshoe Casino continued as the state's top-grossing casino with just more than $16 million in gross gaming receipts for the month. Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona was second, edging Ameristar Casino with $14.7 million in gross receipts to $14.4 million. Ameristar had $16 million in gaming receipts for the month last year.

"Harrah's Casino and Hotel was third in the market but only fourth in the state with $8.4 in gross gaming receipts, up $1.1 million from January of this year. That was down from the nearly $10 million in February 2006, the month before the $84 million remodeling was completed on Bluffs Run Casino that turned it into Horseshoe Casino.."
