Coral launches betting on U.K. Health Lottery

15 October 2013

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Unique to Coral, customers have the opportunity to win £1,000,000 for a £1 stake on the outcome of the Health Lottery Draw which is broadcast on the U.K.'s Channel 5 at 9:55 pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The Health Lottery is owned by Richard Desmond, owner of Northern and Shell, the media group that includes the Daily Express, Daily Star, OK magazine and Channel 5. One of the constraints to the Health Lottery is thought to be the £100,000 top prize which falls a long way short of sums players of the U.K. National Lottery can win.

The Health Lottery is a 50-number lottery in which five balls and a bonus ball are drawn. The Health Lottery player picks five numbers and stakes £1. However, by betting £1 on their numbers at Coral, in addition to winning the standard Health Lottery prizes (£10 for two correct numbers and the bonus ball, £20 for three correct numbers through to £100k for five correct numbers), customer can also win £1,000,000 by correctly picking all five numbers and matching the bonus ball with their Million Pound Number pick.

The Health Lottery is promoting the Coral bet through TV advertising and a huge outdoor media campaign. The campaign will feature the fact that it is just £1 to play (the U.K.'s National Lottery has now increased to £2), and customers can now win £1m by betting on the outcome of the Health Lottery draw at their local Coral shop and at Coral.co.uk.

It is an exclusive tie up and Coral will be contributing a share of the gross revenue to the good causes supported by the Health Lottery. From a regulatory perspective it is key to remember that customers who bet on the Health lottery with Coral are not entering the draw itself. However, with £1m to be won and a percentage of all income going to Health Lottery causes, what better reason to choose Coral to place bets on the outcome of the draw.

Coral's Simon Clare said: "This is going to go down a storm. It will only be a matter of time before we are celebrating our first Coral Health Lottery Plus millionaire for just a £1 bet."
