Cops' Ex-Lawyer Ordered to Testify in Poker Probe

NEW JERSEY -- As reported by the Daily Record: "A Ridgewood lawyer is fighting a subpoena that commands him to testify before a Morris County grand jury about legal advice he gave two Roxbury police officers, who set up what police allege was an illegal poker casino that operated in Dover.

"At the request of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, the grand jury in October issued a subpoena to attorney Amato Galasso that ordered him to appear today, ready to testify. He was told to come armed with all records relating to the 5th Street Club and advice he gave now-suspended Roxbury Sgt. Richard M. Winstock, Officer Thomas "T.J."Juskus, and four other people involved in establishing the club.

"Galasso represented the officers and their partners in their application to the Dover Zoning Board of Adjustment in August 2004 for approval to open what they called a social club. Poker was one of a number of games that the board was told would be offered at the 5th Street Club. But authorities, who raided the premises on Richboynton Road in Dover on April 29, contend that illegal poker games and Texas Hold 'Em poker tournaments were nearly the club's exclusive focus..."
