Consultant Hired for Iowa Gambling Proposal

5 April 2005

IOWA – As reported by the Quad-City Times: "A consultant could be hired to conduct workshop meetings by the end of April to get public input on what should be done with a stretch of Davenport's riverfront where the Isle of Capri wants to build a new gambling complex with a hotel and parking ramp.

"The city, the Isle of Capri, DavenportOne, River Action Inc. and the Riverboat Development Authority all would be asked to contribute toward the $25,000 cost of hiring the consultant. A proposed schedule would require two public sessions at the end of April with a final report due May 13.

"…'This would bring closure on the issue of whether or not there has been public input (on use of that portion of the riverfront),' said Mary Ellen Chamberlin, the executive director of the Riverboat Development Authority, or RDA.

"…The consultant would look at alternatives for redevelopment of 15.2 acres between the lock and dam and Harrison Street. The area was not given priority attention during the Hargreaves study, according to a city request for proposals from potential consultants because a large part of the site is under long-term lease to the Isle of Capri." .
