Construction of The Landing Hotel resumes

16 June 2021

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s $60 million hotel project, "The Landing Hotel Pittsburgh," has restarted construction after more than a year’s hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cranes from local general contractor Massaro Corporation return to the site this week, and steel beam framing is expected to resume within the next few days.

"We’re excited to get The Landing Hotel Pittsburgh back underway," said Bud Green, assistant general manager of Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. "It’s been a long time coming, and we’re eager to add this new hospitality venue to our North Shore offerings."

The development’s restart activates approximately 1,400 temporary construction jobs. When The Landing Hotel opens, likely sometime in 2022, approximately 128 new permanent jobs will be added to Rivers’ ranks.

"We’re very proud to be part of the city’s economic reboot," said Steve Massaro, president of Massaro Corporation. "The Landing Hotel will be a perfect complement to Rivers Casino and a welcome new addition to Pittsburgh’s skyline."

The seven-story, four-star property will include 219 guest rooms and will attach to the existing casino on the east facade, facing the Carnegie Science Center. The hotel’s groundbreaking took place in August 2019.

Making optimal use of its riverfront location, The Landing Hotel will feature expansive windows on every level with unobstructed views of the three rivers, the fountain at Point State Park and Mount Washington. Included among the guest rooms are 10 luxury terrace suites, each with private first-floor patios. A contemporary interior and exterior design, consistent with Rivers Casino’s upscale urban aesthetic, will integrate beautifully with the casino and seamlessly with other North Shore venues.

The Landing Hotel represents a $60 million additional investment in Rivers Casino Pittsburgh, all privately funded.

The hotel was designed by noted hospitality architect, VOA. Klai Juba Wald is the executive architect for the hotel and related renovations, with planning and landscape design by the Pittsburgh office of Strada, LLC.
