Connecticut tribe to appeal judge's decision

CONNECTICUT -- As reported by the Norwich Bulletin: "The Mashantucket Pequots said Friday they will appeal a judge's decision to overrule their objections to a Nov. 24 vote by Foxwoods table game dealers to organize under the United Auto Workers.

"A statement issued by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation by spokesman Arthur Henick said the tribe continues to believe its 10 objections had merit and would seek a review by the board's headquarters in Washington.

"We are pursuing these objections to ensure that our employees are given the right to cast their vote using a ballot that they understand,' the statement read, 'and to do so in an atmosphere free from intimidation and harassment.'

"A UAW supporter and 11-year Foxwoods table game dealer, meanwhile, called on the casino to move forward and cease its delays.

"...In his decision released Friday, administrative law judge Raymond Green wrote, regardless of what language they spoke or read, casino employees would have had to be 'unconscious or completely disinterested in the outcome' not to understand the consequences of voting yes or no during the vote..."
