Connecticut Tribal Casinos Report Record Slot Revenue

CONNECTICUT – As reported by the New London Day: "Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino won more money from their slot machine customers last month than in any previous October, the result of continued growth at the two facilities and a calendar that included two more weekend days than 2003.

"'It was a really good month,' said Mitchell Etess, president and chief executive officer of Mohegan Sun. 'We grew in handle by 8.2 percent, our win was up 4.8 percent and our customers were a little luckier than they were last year.'

"The casino won $71.6 million, keeping 8.1 percent of the total wagered in all machines compared to 8.4 percent last year.

"…Mohegan Sun's average daily win for each of its 6,653 slot machines was $370, the highest in the Northeast, according to figures compiled by Atlantic City-based Spectrum Gaming Group.

"…Foxwoods' slot win of $68.4 million set a record, though the casino's handle was actually 1.6 percent smaller than last October. The casino held slightly more this year –– 8.37 percent compared to 8.02 percent in 2003…"
