Connecticut smoking talks nearer18 March 2008CONNECTICUT -- As reported by the Hartford Courant: "Taking the suggestion of the state attorney general and several leading lawmakers, a legislative committee on Monday supported negotiating a smoking ban at the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos. "Under a bill the committee approved, the state would create a 10-member panel to negotiate with the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes. If the negotiations fail, the ban would take effect in February 2009. "...Both tribes opposed the bill the committee passed Monday. The Mohegan Tribe said it's willing to discuss the issue, but not if the legislature continues to pursue a ban through legislation. "...The casino smoking bill, which is being pushed by the United Auto Workers union, now goes to the full House and Senate for consideration..." |
